A light-emitting capacitor is made from a dielectric that uses phosphorescence to produce light. If one of the conductive plates is made with a transparent material, the light is visible. Light-emitting capacitors are used in the construction of electroluminescent panels, for applications such as backlighting for laptop computers.
Connect another wire from the unconnected terminal of the capacitor to one terminal of the light bulb or the light bulb socket. This integration is crucial as the light bulb will facilitate the charging process and indicate the capacitor’s charging status.
In the example where the charged capacitor is connected to a light bulb you can see the electric field is large in the beginning but decreases over time. The electron current is also greater in the beginning and decreases over time. Because of this the light bulb starts out shining brightly but slowly dims and goes out.
This is because the capacitor now acts as the (temporary) power source for the circuit, giving power to the LED, so that it stays on for a short while. A capacitor does not act like a battery, because it dumps its charge very quickly, so that the LED only receives power for a few seconds.
During the charging process, the battery does work to remove charges from one plate and deposit them onto the other. Figure 5.4.1 Work is done by an external agent in bringing +dq from the negative plate and depositing the charge on the positive plate. Let the capacitor be initially uncharged.
Once the charges even out or are neutralized the electric field will cease to exist. Therefore the current stops running. In the example where the charged capacitor is connected to a light bulb you can see the electric field is large in the beginning but decreases over time.

A capacitor can store electric energy when disconnected from its charging circuit, so it can be used like a temporary battery, or like other types of rechargeable energy storage system. Capacitors are commonly used in electronic devices to maintain power supply while batteries are being changed. (This prevents loss of information in volatile memory.)
The amount of electrical charge that a capacitor can store on its plates is known as its Capacitance value and depends upon three main factors. Surface Area – the surface area, A of the two conductive plates which make up the capacitor, …
When the button is pressed down, closing the circuit, the battery does two jobs: it charges the capacitor up with voltage and it gives power to the LED, lighting it. Once the battery is on for …
