Film capacitors are versatile components that can be designed into power electronics for industries ranging from consumer and renewables to automotive, aerospace and military. These capacitors come with very specific advantages including non-polarity, a high insulation resistance, low dielectric losses and self-healing capability.
Failure due to overcurrent and overheating is a common failure mode for film capacitors. The reason for this failure mode is that due to the limited effective area of the electrode of the film capacitor, the equivalent series resistance of the electrode cannot be ignored.

1. Connect Positive terminal of Voltage Source to positive terminal of the Capacitor. 2 Connect Negative terminal of Voltage source to negative terminal of the Capacitor. Now slowly raise the voltage output of the source . At ' Voltage input to the capacitor > maximum safe operating voltage of capacitor ' , the capacitor will explode.
