Brief: On October 21, 2019, the National Institute of Technology and Standards of Korea issued Announcement No. 306 to update the Management of Electrical Appliance and Household Goods Safety Act, and officially included the lithium battery and lithium battery system for energy storage systems (ESS) into the scope of KC mandatory certification.
The mandatory KC certification for ESS lithium battery and battery system will take effect on this regulatory update date (October 21, 2019). KC certification is Korea's mandatory certification system for product safety, the certificated products include auto parts, child safety products, electrical appliances and household appliances.
Expanding the rated capacity range of the energy storage battery power converter (PCS), from the original control PCS with rated capacity below 100kW to the rated capacity below 2 MW. The mandatory KC certification for ESS lithium battery and battery system will take effect on this regulatory update date (October 21, 2019).
In Korea, ESS-related products are subject to stringent safety and quality certifications, including KCs certification and KCs certification for explosion-proof equipment.
Korea is positioning itself to claim a significant share of the worldwide market for Energy Storage Systems.
KC62133:2019 standard will be implemented from September 6 this year 2.1 for ordinary batteries except lithium batteries for mobile phones, tablets and laptops, the requirements of kc62133:2019 are the same as those of kc62133:2015, and the standard of kc62133:2015 is completely corresponding to the standard of iec62133:2012.
