Does temperature affect the performance of lead-acid batteries with nanostructured electrodes?

In this research, the performance of lead-acid batteries with nanostructured electrodes was studied at 10 C at temperatures of 25, −20 and 40 °C in order to evaluate the efficiency and the effect of temperature on electrode morphology.

What is a lead acid battery cell?

Such applications include automotive starting lighting and ignition (SLI) and battery-powered uninterruptable power supplies (UPS). Lead acid battery cell consists of spongy lead as the negative active material, lead dioxide as the positive active material, immersed in diluted sulfuric acid electrolyte, with lead as the current collector:

Are flooded lead-acid batteries aging?

Different aging processes rates of flooded lead–acid batteries (FLAB) depend strongly on the operational condition, yet the difficult to predict presence of certain additives or contaminants could prompt or anticipate the aging.

Do flooded lead acid batteries consume more water?

A fast screening method: for evaluating water loss in flooded lead acid batteries was set up and the Tafel parameters for both linear sweep voltammetry and gas analysis tests, determined at 60 °C for water consumption, correlated well with the concentration of Te contaminant, to be considered responsible for the increased water consumption.

Is there a cooling component in a lead-acid battery system?

It was found by calculations and measurements that there is a cooling component in the lead-acid battery system which is caused by the endothermic discharge reactions and electrolysis of water during charging, related to entropy change contribution.

What happens if you overcharge a lead acid battery?

Due to the production of hydrogen at the positive electrode, lead acid batteries suffer from water loss during overcharge. To deal with this problem, distilled water may be added to the battery as is typically done for flooded lead acid batteries.
