South Africa’s Department of Mineral Resources and Energy has formally invited interested parties to register prospective bids under the Battery Energy Storage Capacity Bid Window of the Independent Power Producers Procurement Programme (Battery Energy Storage IPPPP). The Bid Submission is scheduled to close on 5 July 2023, at 17:00.
Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy Gwede Mantashe today announced Oasis Aggeneis, Mogobe BESS, Oasis Mookodi and Oasis Nieuwehoop as preferred bidders under the Battery Energy Storage Independent Power Producers Procurement Programme.
Originally 17 bids were received for the Energy Storage Bid Window 1, which was set to procure 513MW, located across five substations. According to the original specification, commercial close will now be expected within six months of the preferred bidder announcement, with financial close expected within one month of that date.
The Bid Submission is scheduled to close on 5 July 2023, at 17:00. The tender stipulates that the minimum energy capacity for each substation should ensure at least 4-hour storage capacity. The batteries will be installed at the following substations: All these sites are in the Northern Cape province.
The battery storage projects are expected to enter into commercial operation in September 2026 and have a combined investment value of R5.3-billion.
When the DMRE signed 13 projects under Bid Window 5 at the end of2022, it brought the total signed projects for that bid window up to 1,759MW renewable capacity to the national grid – 784MW from onshore wind technologies and 975MW from solar PV. ESI ESI Africa © Copyright.
