Credit: AETOSWire. Dubai has inaugurated the world’s largest concentrated solar power (CSP) project within the 950MW fourth phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park in the UAE. The project was launched by UAE Prime Minister and vice-president Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

The world’s largest single-site solar power plant – a flagship project under China’s Belt and Road Initiative – has been completed in the United Arab Emirates, ahead of the UN climate change conference Cop28 in Dubai later this month.
NOMAC, a subsidiary of ACWA Power, will be responsible for the operation and maintenance solar plant. Shanghai Electric is the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor, while ICBC is the financial partner for the project. Abengoa will be the key technology provider for the hybrid solar power facility.
The two-gigawatt Al Dhafra Solar Photovoltaic Project covers 20 sq km (12.4 square miles) of desert outside Abu Dhabi and can power about 200,000 households, according to main contractor China National Machinery Industry Corporation.
The report said the Karachi plant generated nearly 20 billion kilowatt-hours of clean electricity to meet the annual needs of 2 million people in Pakistan. The 4 million panels in the desert outside Abu Dhabi will reduce carbon emissions by 2.4 million tonnes per year and power 200,000 households.
The Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) agreement with Shanghai Electric Generation Group (SEGC) for the DEWA (Dubai Electricity and Water Authority) 700MW CSP project in Dubai was signed at a ceremony in China.
