No. For lithium ion batteries shipped in accordance with Section IA or Section IB of PI 965, which must be on a Shipper’s Declaration, the Shipper’s Declaration includes a certification statement “I declare that all of the applicable air transport requirements have been met.”
The new rule also requires economic operators to create an EU declaration of conformity for batteries that complies with the requirements of the regulation. If a battery is subject to more than one regulation in the EU, one declaration can be provided to cover all applicable regulations.
But it’s likely that lithium batteries will appear in a large selection of the products imported into the UK and until safer battery options are developed, importers must comply with the regulations in place to ensure the safety of ships, lorries, aircraft and the people charged with bringing them to the UK.
Some companies will also request a shipper’s declaration for Section II lithium batteries, a statement signed by your supplier describing the contents of the shipment, the classifications, the complete contact information of the supplier, as well as the consignee’s.
