Plans for an electricity storage system in the countryside on green belt have been given the green light - despite 208 objections against the proposals. Novus Renewable Services Ltd's plan to build the system at Marsh Lane, New Mills, and was approved at a High Peak Borough Council meeting on Monday.
One example they mention is precisely CAES. The IEA Technology Roadmap states that the key to achieving widespread storage technology deployment is enabling compensation for multiple services delivered across the energy system.
LDRS said the facility will be used to store energy when there is an excessive supply at the New Mills Substation. Any excess energy will be transmitted back to the National Grid via the substation, when there is insufficient supply to meet demand.
ES is nowadays recognized as a key component of energy systems, where the development of storage technologies can provide multiple services and generate greater value.
Technical issues such as the cost of technology, device efficiency, and other technical characteristics are already known as capable of impacting the deployment of ES technologies and some of the barriers to storage.
