In China, most solar radiation measurements started since 1957 . In order to update the measurement devices, some stations were terminated and constructed during 1990–1993. There are 98 (17 stations with Hb) stations currently measure solar radiation after updating measurement devices .
The annual mean global solar radiation in China from 1961 to 2016 was estimated at 174.36 W·m −2, with a decreasing trend of −0.83 W·m −2 ·decade −1.
We used data acquired between 2001 and 2016 from 98 solar radiation measurement stations in China to verify two satellite-derived products (SARAH-E and CERES-SYN1deg) and two reanalysis data sets (ERA5 and MERRA-2).
The present study introduces the RF model, a popular and highly flexible machine learning algorithm, to estimate solar radiation across China at the national scale. The estimated DGSR is in good agreement with site observations across China, with mean R, RMSE, and MB values of 0.95, 2.34, and −0.04 MJ/m 2, respectively.
There are 98 (17 stations with Hb) stations currently measure solar radiation after updating measurement devices . Data from the 98 surface meteorological stations across China were acquired from the National Meteorological Information Center, China Meteorological Administration.
The average yearly potential for solar power generation in China from 1961 to 2016, assessed with global horizontal radiation data from the PSO-XGBoost model, reached 285.00 kWh·m−2.
