This guide will work for most LG refrigerators. This guide is written with an LG model LFX25973 refrigerator. If you have a different model, you may encounter some minor disassembly differences, but the overall repair process will be the same. The compressor run capacitor is needed for the compressor to run properly.
For those with a start capacitor, make sure to test the capacitor to see if it is good. Testing is done using the multimeter's capacitance reading. Set the meter to MFD or uF which both stand for micro-farad. Next, take a 10,000 Ohm resistor and rub across the start capacitor to remove the residual voltage.
For example, the reading of 15.41 MFD for a 15 MFD rated capacitor is acceptable. If there is no value read, the value is over 5%, or there is visual damage, or leaking fluid on the capacitor, replace it with a new one. The resistance value can be tested on the compressor protector. Set the multimeter to resistance.
Pull the left edge of the capacitor toward you to unclip it. Handle the capacitor carefully as it may still be charged, and can give a dangerous and painful electrical shock.
