The Turkish government has announced it will subsidize a 500 MW vertically integrated solar module factory which construction company Kalyon Enerji won a tender to build in 2017. The official journal of the Turkish government revealed Ankara will contribute a “super incentive” of TRL1.99 billion ($333 million) towards the scheme.
The 2020 Cost and Performance Assessment analyzed energy storage systems from 2 to 10 hours. The 2022 Cost and Performance Assessment analyzes storage system at additional 24- and 100-hour durations.
Turkish PV manufacturer Kalyon Solar Technologies held the opening ceremony for its Ankara gigafactory this week with president Recep Tayyip Erdogan in attendance. The vertically-integrated fab will initially have a 500 MW annual production capacity for the manufacture of solar ingots, wafers, cells and modules, rising to 1 GW in future.
The Pomega Energy Storage factory in Ankara, Turkey will start in Q4 2022. It will eventually have a production capacity of 1GWh by Q1 2025, with an interim ramp-up set for Q2 2024.
With the Turkish government having given Kalyon Enerji another three years to build the 500 MW facility it won a tender to construct with former partner Hanwha Q Cells, Ankara has now committed a $333 million “super incentive” to the fab. The government has stepped in to try and get the much-delayed factory built.
