One of the most extensive clean and renewable energy projects that Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) is implementing to achieve this target is the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the largest single-site solar park in the world. It has a planned capacity of 5,000MW by 2030 with investments up to AED 50 billion.
The utility said this week that it has added 270 MW of solar capacity since August, to bring to 300 MW the volume added this year as part of the fifth phase of what is planned to be a 5 GW site, operational in 2030. The AED 2.06 billion ($561 million) fifth phase of the site, near Dubai, will be 60% owned by DEWA.
Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) are playing a key role in the project, stating that it will power 320,000 homes with “clean and sustainable energy’. To do this, the Dubai Solar Park will use three hybrid technologies, including a parabolic basin complex, CSP tower and solar panels.
Due to those challenges, the country's cumulative installed capacity remains valued at around 3.5 GW by end 2022, but shall soon reach 6 GW capacity with the completion of the current mega-projects in Abu Dhabi (Al Dhafrah 1,500 MW) and Dubai (MBR Solar Park Phases 4 and 5, respectively 950 and 900 MW).”
