The company plans to invest USD 1.7 billion in constructing new facilities in the 1.4 million-square feet of the vacant land owned by LG Energy Solution, aiming to increase battery production capacity by five times, from 5GWh to 25GWh, by 2025. Site preparation will begin this summer, and the plant is scheduled to open in 2024.
Of the 6,124.249MW of capacity that entered the auction, 94.42% was awarded an agreement. Battery storage projects totalling 627MW were awarded contracts in the UK's 2023-24 Capacity Market auction yesterday (14 February).

From 2016 onwards, the UK energy markets’s appetite for battery energy storage systems (BESS) has grown and grown, making it one of the leading centres of activity in the global market today.
The auction, for delivery year 2024/2025, resulted in assets clearing after eight auction rounds at £35.79 (US$45.39)/kW/year, with 7.6GW procured. Capacity Market auction cleared at a higher price than expected, and battery developers were the auction’s “big winners".
In 2023, the share of domestic battery storage systems grew by 70%, the share of large-scale battery storage systems by 21% and the share of commercial storage systems by 9%. Germany maintained its position as the leading market in Europe with installations of 5.9 GWh last year and significant growth of 152%.
