To reiterate - test the original one properly, by removing it from the circuit. If it tests pretty much where it should be that way, it's unlikely that a replacement capacitor will do anything but add $12 to the cost of replacing the fan anyway.
De-solder (or cut) the wires at capacitor terminals and connect them to a new capacitor (same type). 3. Power up the fan. If the motor still refuses to rotate then I believe the problem is with the motor windings and it's time to say bye-bye to the fan. Once the thermal fuse has been determined to be the cause, here we go...
I need to replace my ceiling fan capacitor because it only works on its high speed. Any other speed makes the fan slow to a crawl then even stop at times. I been having trouble finding the exact capacitor the fan has.
A replacement capacitor MUST be at least the same voltage or higher. The µF can vary as most of the caps have a wide tolerance some as great as 50%. But 10 to 20% diff should work fine. THE BIGGEST factor is form factor. It must fit into the same place and connect the same way. Screws, spade lugs, solder, whatever.
Personally I wouldn't use the one that has the incorrect microfarad rating. When replacing capacitors I only use ones that are within 3-5% of the original value. This is 17% more. So for one of the 3 speeds, it's going to run using the wrong value. I would replace one with the ųf reading that matches.
But sometimes the thrown part happens to be the problem. For a replacement: Voltages should be equal to or greater than the original. Hopefully obviously, for an AC rated capacitor you need an AC rated replacement, not a DC replacement (which tend to explode when reverse polarity is applied.)
