BEIJING, Feb. 18 -- China's photovoltaic (PV) sector posted robust growth in 2022 with the total output value of the industry exceeding 1.4 trillion yuan (203.9 billion U.S. dollars), official data showed.
The measures came as a way to promote the healthier development of China's fast-developing PV industry, which has already made new breakthroughs in the past year, setting records in annual new installations, new distributed PV installations, total solar power installations and PV exports, said the China Photovoltaic Industry Association.
China's NEA has announced the latest national power statistics. It says China installed a record 87.41 GW of solar in 2022. Following an installation rush at the end of 2022, China installed 21.7 GW of new capacity in December alone, after adding 65.71 GW in the first 11 months of the year.
The 87.41 GW in 2022 represent a year-on-year growth of 60.3% compared to 2021. NEA figures also show that by the end of 2022, China’s cumulative solar capacity reached 392.61 GW, up 28.1% year on year. China also installed 37.63 GW of new wind power in 2022 – 21% less than in 2021.
In early June 2022, the National Energy Administration (NEA) announced that it expects of no less than 108 GW of solar PV power generation capacity to be added in 2022. If realized, it would almost double last year’s record installation of 54.93 GW.
In 2022, Europe remained the top market for China's exports of PV facilities, accounting for about 46 percent of total export value. More supportive policies to maximize solar power use and promote healthier photovoltaic development are in the pipeline, with sanguine forecasts of record growth in PV capacity this year, officials and experts said.
