The first solar units from CHN Energy’s 1GW offshore PV project have connected to China’s energy grid. Developed by CHN Energy’s Guohua Energy Investment, the offshore PV project is located 8km off the eastern coast of the city of Dongying and spans approximately 1,223 hectares.
China has taken significant strides in offshore photovoltaics in recent years, especially in Shandong and Jiangsu provinces, she said. Offshore solar projects involve the installation of solar panels on floating platforms or structures in bodies of water, such as oceans or large lakes.
China Forward Industry Research Institute Co estimates that the country’s offshore PV installed capacity will exceed 60 gigawatts by 2027, highlighting the sector’s potential for expansion.
